What if you are interested in self-improvement?

How can you set out to build written communication skills?

How do you approach someone for a mentoring relationship?

What if you are trying to accomplish these goals from prison?

A Cleveland based nonprofit named Life Restored Inc. (  has a mission to help women successfully transition back into the community after incarceration by providing housing and social services. They believe that effective reentry is a process that begins the moment a person is incarcerated. Life Restore Inc. focuses on helping female inmates develop pro-social behaviors and become their “best selves”. They believe that this process should begin while they are behind prison walls. Therefore, they recently established the “SheReads” Book Program that gets Christian and inspirational books directly into the hands of the inmates. The inmates are allowed to choose up to 3 books from a pre-selected book catalog and require each participant to write an essay on how the reading impacted them before receiving the next book on their list.  The program is impactful and benefits inmates in several ways:

● An edifying pen pal type of relationship will be established between volunteers and the inmate.

● The inmates who hardly ever get mail or contact from beyond the prison walls will fill uplifted to see they have mail and that someone cares about them.

● The readings will create an opportunity for the woman to assess/establish goals for self improvement and consider what adjustments they need to make in order to achieve them.

Life Restored wants to help these women to find faith, hope and the greatness within themselves. This mindset will cause a permanent and successful transition back into society after innate.
